Silverman’s Work in Group Landscape Show at Gallery MacEgan

Gallery MacEgan in Morristown, New Jersey, will be showing new mixed media landscapes by Stefanie Silverman in its upcoming group landscape exhibition. The show runs from March 28 through April 9; a reception will be held April 2 from 7 to 9 pm. Stefanie’s paintings are simple compositions that communicate the essence of landscapes.

Stefanie Silverman now a PSNJ Signature Member

Stefanie Silverman is honored to now be a signature member of the Pastel Society of New Jersey. Her painting “Forest Morning” will be in PSNJ’s first Signature Members Exhibition at the Design Domaine Gallery in Bernardsville, March 5 through 31. The opening reception takes place Friday, March 5, from 7 to 9 pm. A special open house on March 6 from 1 to 5 pm will feature a demonstration by renowned pastel artist Christina Debarry.

Small Works for a Big Cause

Miriam Jacobs and Stefanie Siverman are two of the many local artists who are joining together for a fundraiser in support of Haiti earthquake relief. Small Works for a Big Cause will take place on Sunday, January 31, from 2 to 5 pm at Brassworks, 105 Grove Street in Montclair (between Walnut Street and Willard Place, behind Town Auto Body). Over 100 artworks, 12 x 12 inches or smaller, will be sold for a minimum $50 contribution each. All proceeds will be given to the Haiti earthquake relief organizations Partners in Health, Doctors Without Borders, and the Red Cross. More info about Brassworks is here.

Update: The event was a huge success, with hundreds of people attending, and $35,000 raised!

Jacobs’s work included in Book on Fabric Art

Miriam Jacobs will soon be a published artist, as two of her pieces were selected for publication in a book on fabric art. The name of the book is 1000 Artisan Textiles, Creative fiber works in detail, and was edited by Sandra Salamony and Gina M. Brown; it is expected to be in bookstores in May 2010. The book is intended for the general public and for design professionals.

Miriam Jacobs Residency and Art Show

In November 2009, Miriam Jacobs was invited to do a teaching residency at a private school in Greenwich, Connecticut. She taught the students transfer disperse dye, a method of printing on fabric. The students ranged from third grade to high school seniors. They worked hard to prepare several pieces for printing, and were able to make collages and even collaborate with each other on pair and group pieces. Miriam was extremely pleased with the students’ diligence and ability to experiment. In December, Miriam had a solo show in the school’s gallery, exhibiting primarily her textile work. Miriam created a new body of work for the show, including some pieces that are eight feet by six feet large. She also proudly displayed some of her students’ work. Art Connections 6 at George Segal Gallery

Art Connections 6 takes place at Montclair State University’s George Segal Gallery January 17 through February 13. Stefanie Silverman has two paintings, including a new mixed media artwork on canvas, in the show, which is an annual exhibition and sale of art by over 100 artists that serves as a fundraiser for the gallery. An opening reception will be held January 17 from 2 to 5 pm. Gallery hours are Tues., Wed., Fri., Sat. 10 to 5, Thurs. 12:30 to 7:30. The gallery can be accessed from the 4th floor of the Red Hawk Parking Deck adjacent to the Alexander Kasser Theater.

Crafts at the Baird

Anne Sailer’s jewelry has been juried into the 16th Annual CRAFTS AT THE BAIRD — a five-day show and sale of fine crafts, including jewelry, metals, fibers, ceramics, glass, and more. The opening reception is on Wednesday, 12/2, from 7-9pm, and the show then runs from 12/3 through 12/6 from 12:00 noon to 8pm, daily. Suburban Sky Holiday Event

Stefanie is excited to be participating in Suburban Sky’s next warehouse/sample sale event, which will benefit the Northern New Jersey Maternal/Child Health Consortium. Her painting “Highland Avenue with Blue Sky” is in the silent auction, and her note cards and art will be on sale as well. The event will take place at the Bobbi Brown Studio, 10 Lackawanna Plaza in Montclair. Hours are Thursday Dec. 3, 5 to 8 pm (with wine and treats!), Friday, Dec. 4, 9 am to 5 pm, and Saturday, Dec. 5, 10 am to 5 pm. Hope you can stop by and shop for a good cause!

An Art Show Inspired by Music

To celebrate Jazz Month in Montclair, Studio Montclair and the Montclair Jazz Project are presenting “Inspiriations,” a juried exhibit of artwork that has been directly inspired or influenced by either jazz or other music genres. Keira Boertzel-Smith and Stefanie Silverman are excited to have artwork in the show. Check out “Inspirations” through November 29 at the Montclair Public Library, 50 South Fullerton Avenue. Hours are Mon., Wed., Thurs. 10-9, Tues. 10-6, Fri. and Sat. 10-5, Sun. 1-5. The opening reception is November 8 from 2 to 4 pm, when you can also enjoy a jazz jam that will take place from 1 to 4:30.
